"Saint Patrick’s pupils were ‘Fixing Things’
Community Restorative Justice (CRJ) Newry/Armagh’s “Safer Stronger Communities” Project delivered a very successful educational programme to P7 pupils in Saint Patrick’s Primary School, The Meadow in Newry.
The programme called ‘Fixing Things’, which is funded by the DfC through the Newry Neighbourhood Renewal Partnership, is an introduction to restorative practice, which is a practical way of understanding, identifying and dealing with harm caused and finding ways to repair that harm.
During the 6 week programme, the pupils looked at different topics such as: ‘What is community?’, ‘Our choices and their consequences’, bullying, ‘the emergency services and how they help our communities’ and ‘how restorative practices can help our communities and further strengthen them’, using restorative approaches.
CRJ believe that this programme will help the pupils when they make the transition from primary to secondary education and also later in life by providing them with a new skill set as well as building their capacity and resilience to deal with life’s issues." R1909002
